Axis Bank Q1 FY27 results

Axis Bank, one of India’s leading private sector lenders, has reported strong earnings for the first quarter of financial year 2027, covering the period ended June 30, 2026. The bank’s standalone net profit climbed 22.5% year-on-year to reach ₹7,113.92 crore, up from ₹5,806.14 crore recorded in the same quarter last year. On a consolidated basis, including subsidiaries, net profit came in even higher at ₹7,632.31 crore, marking a 22.24% jump compared to ₹6,243.72 crore a year earlier.

The standout driver behind this profit surge was a sharp reduction in provisions and contingencies, which fell by nearly 44% year-on-year to ₹2,222.54 crore. This decline more than offset softer growth in the bank’s core operating income, allowing profit before tax to rise close to 25% during the quarter.

Net Interest Income & Margin Trends

Net Interest Income, the difference between interest earned on loans and interest paid on deposits, grew 8% year-on-year to ₹14,646 crore. However, the bank’s Net Interest Margin narrowed to 3.46%, down from 3.62% in the previous quarter and 3.80% a year earlier, reflecting continued pressure on deposit costs across the banking sector. Other income declined during the quarter, adding some pressure to overall core earnings growth even as the bottom line improved.

Key Takeaways for Investors

The results reflect a bank benefiting from cleaner asset quality and lower credit costs, even as rising funding costs and softer fee income temper core profitability growth. Shares of Axis Bank reacted positively, closing near ₹1,329 on the NSE, up close to 2% following the announcement. Analysts view the numbers as broadly ahead of brokerage estimates, with strong loan growth across retail and SME segments seen as a positive signal for the bank’s franchise strength heading into the rest of FY27.
