BSE & NSE Mock Trading: January 3, 2026 Timings

03, January 2026. By -Kaushik

Today, January 3, 2026, the Indian stock exchanges (BSE and NSE) are conducting a scheduled Mock Trading Session. Since it is a Saturday, the regular market is closed, but these sessions are vital for the technical health of the trading ecosystem.
Here is the breakdown of the timings, details, and the reasons behind this session, formatted for your blog.

BSE & NSE Mock Trading: January 3, 2026 Timings

While different segments (Equity, F&O, Currency) may have slightly staggered timings, the general schedule for today’s session is as follows:

Session Type Timings (Approximate)
Log-in Session 10:15 AM – 11:00 AM
Pre-Open Session 11:00 AM – 11:15 AM
Continuous Trading 11:15 AM – 3:30 PM
Closing Session 3:40 PM – 3:50 PM
Trade Modification Until 4:00 PM

Why is Mock Trading Conducted? (Kyu Rakha Jata Hawi?)

Mock trading is essentially a “dress rehearsal” for the stock market. Even though no real money is exchanged and no actual shares are moved in your Demat account, it serves several critical purposes:

1. System Robustness & Stress Testing
Exchanges use these sessions to see if their servers can handle high traffic volumes without crashing. It’s a “stress test” to ensure that on a high-volatility Monday, the system stays stable.
2. Testing New Software & Features
Whenever the NSE or BSE introduces a new trading tool, a change in the algorithm, or a software update, they first run it in a mock session. This prevents technical glitches from affecting real trades on a live business day.
3. Disaster Recovery (DR) Drills
One of the most common reasons for Saturday sessions is to test Disaster Recovery sites. The exchange simulates a total failure of its main Mumbai servers and switches everything to a backup location (like Chennai) to ensure the market can keep running even during an emergency.

4. Broker & Member Readiness
Brokers (like Zerodha, Groww, Angel One) participate to ensure their internal systems are communicating perfectly with the exchange’s servers. It allows them to troubleshoot any connection issues or data feed lags.

Key Points for Investors to Remember
*No Real Impact: Any “profit” or “loss” you see in your terminal today is purely virtual. It will not affect your actual portfolio.
*Data Reset: All orders placed today will be automatically deleted by the exchange before the market opens on Monday.
*Fluctuating Prices: You might see weird stock prices or “live ticks” on your app today—don’t panic! These are just test data points.
