SAILQ1-FYyl27-results

SAIL Q1 FY27 results are out, and the country’s largest state-owned steelmaker has delivered a mixed scorecard for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Steel Authority of India Limited posted a strong year-on-year jump in profitability, even as sequential numbers softened due to planned maintenance shutdowns and lower sales volumes. Here’s a complete breakdown of the SAIL Q1 FY27 results for investors and steel industry watchers.

SAIL Q1 FY27 Results: Key Financial Highlights

Steel Authority of India Limited declared its financial results on July 24, 2026, and the headline number stood out immediately. SAIL reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,644.05 crore in Q1 FY27, more than double the Rs 744.58 crore posted in the same quarter last year. This marks a year-on-year jump of over 120%, driven largely by disciplined cost control rather than volume growth.

However, compared to the previous quarter (Q4 FY26), net profit fell 10.4%, down from Rs 1,835 crore. Revenue from operations came in at Rs 26,246 crore, up marginally by 1.25% YoY but down 14.8% quarter-on-quarter from Rs 30,813 crore. EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 4,153 crore, slightly lower than the Rs 4,408 crore recorded in Q4 FY26, though operating margins actually improved to 15.8% from 14.3% in the prior quarter.

Production, Sales & Business Segment Highlights

Volumes were the softer part of the SAIL Q1 FY27 results. Crude steel production came in at 4.76 million tonnes, while sales volume stood at 4.16 million tonnes, both lower than the previous quarter. The company attributed this moderation to scheduled repairs and maintenance activities that were advanced during the quarter, a step management described as necessary given global supply chain disruptions caused by geopolitical volatility.

On the segment side, the Visvesvaraya Iron & Steel Plant reported a narrower loss of Rs 2.51 crore, compared to a loss of Rs 10.57 crore in the same quarter last year, indicating gradual improvement across subsidiary operations. Total expenses for the quarter fell to Rs 24,146.32 crore from Rs 25,189.19 crore a year earlier, reflecting the cost discipline management has been emphasising.

Management Commentary and Balance Sheet Analysis

Commenting on the results, SAIL Chairman & Managing Director Dr Ashok Kumar Panda said that amid global uncertainties, the domestic steel industry showed resilience backed by sustained demand in domestic consumption. He added that enhanced operational efficiencies, prudent cost management and focused marketing initiatives helped deliver a profitable first quarter, and the company remains confident about strengthening performance in coming quarters while riding on robust manufacturing capabilities.

On the balance sheet front, SAIL’s reserves (excluding revaluation reserve) expanded to Rs 57,807.86 crore as of June 30, 2026, compared to Rs 55,401.67 crore a year earlier. Total segment assets stood at Rs 1,40,998.33 crore, up from Rs 1,35,475 crore, while total segment liabilities rose to Rs 79,059.94 crore from Rs 75,942.80 crore over the same period.
